TODAY MARKS THE 125th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NGRAÇIE TEKKE – MALLAKASTËR

On Friday, 21 November 2025, the Ngraçie Tekke in Mallakastër commemorated the 125th anniversary of its founding, a significant spiritual and cultural milestone for the Bektashi community.
Clerics, myhibs, and believers from Mallakastër and from across Albania took part in the event, honoring the history, traditions, and spiritual role that this tekke has carried across generations.
On this occasion, the World Leader of the Bektashi Order, His Holiness Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, delivered a greeting message to the believers and the local community. He emphasized that the Ngraçie Tekke has always been a center of light, love, and Bektashi wisdom. He wished prosperity and blessings to all, highlighting that the teachings of Haxhi Bektash Veliu, along with the spiritual heritage of the babas and dervishes of this tekke, have nourished not only faith but also patriotism and resilience throughout the years.
“This tekke,” he noted, “remains a living symbol of our tradition, a place where peace, hope, and faith intertwine, and where generations have always found strength and support.”
Founded at the end of the 19th century by Baba Nuriu, the Ngraçie Tekke has played a special role in the religious and social life of Mallakastër. It accompanied key moments in Albanian history, supporting local fighters during the Independence movement and the Vlora War, while always serving as a center for teachings of love for God, the homeland, and humanity.
Even during the difficult years when religious practice was forbidden, the people of Ngraçie maintained their spiritual connection with the tekke, keeping alive the light of the Bektashi çirag.
The commemoration of the 125th anniversary marked a moment of reflection and gratitude for the historical journey of this tekke and for its continuous contribution to the spiritual life of the community.
