THE ARCHIVES OF THE WORLD BEKTASHI SEAT

The archive of the Bektashi World Headquarters collects, preserves, processes and serves documents that prove the history of Bektashism in Albania and in the World. The documents stored in the Archive are documents created by Bektashi institutions, central and local, and by personalities of Bektashism and other areas of society. The earliest document preserved in the Archives of the World Headquarters dates back to 1847, (Prayers of Nasim Frakulla written and sung by dervish Salih Tepelena). The support, the creation technique and the language used are different and reflect to a considerable extent the peculiarities of the state and social development of the time when they were created. Most documents are supported on paper but also in photographs, image and sound tapes, discs, microfilms. The language used is mainly Albanian but there are also Arabic, Ottoman, English, French, Italian, etc. The data of these documents are a vivid overview of the organization and functioning of the Bektashi faith over the years, of the activity of world leaders, of interfaith coexistence, of ceremonies and religious rites. At the same time, they provide important data for the history of our country and people, the war and the struggle for freedom and independence, for the protection of Albanian lands, for the development of the Albanian language, for internal political, economic, social, cultural, educational developments, etc. The peculiarity of this documentation is that for the period until 1967, most of it consists of photocopies taken in the Central State Archive (where is the original fund received after 1967). Here is the opportunity to emphasize the cooperation with the Central State Archive, local archives and other institutions. To ensure the integrity of the fund, an ongoing requirement is the collection of documents from various sources and storage sites. With the completion of the first phase (collection) began the phase of technical-scientific processing of documentation. The final purpose of this elaboration is to create access, necessary to meet both study and operational needs. Priority number one has been ownership documents, due to their critical role in various legal proceedings. Recall that these legal procedures are necessary for the re-recognition of ownership of assets unjustly seized by the communist regime after 1967. Today, these documents are 90% accessible. In addition, documents are available to scholars that reflect various aspects of the activity of the Presidency, from 1847 to 1996. Recognizing and appreciating the importance of creating a complete fund for the history of Bektashism in Albania, we would like to invite all citizens who have documents, to visit us in the Archive of the Patriarchate and to actively contribute to its enrichment.
