Today, July 14, 2018, we mark the 11th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Bektashi Tekke in Gjakova.
This day, according to the Calendar of the Bektashi Presidency, is a day of pilgrimage to the Gjakova Tekke. Therefore, every newcomer is welcome in this temple of the Lord.
The Gjakova tekke became possible to rebuild in 2007. This, after the destruction of the burning to the ground, together with the rich Library of the shrine, during the last war in Kosovo.
The Bektashi tekke of Gjakova was founded in 1790 by Baba Shemsi. So far, in this Tekke have served 12 prominent fathers of the path of Hazrat Piri, Hynqar Haxhi Bektashi Veli. The current postman is Baba Mumin Lama.
As the tradition of our holy Tariqat loves, the Tekke of Gjakova served not only for the religion but also the nation. Our tekke has given a direct contribution to the organization and progress of the work of the Albanian League of Prizren. Not only that, the Bektashi Teke of Gjakova, has been the hearth of Albanian education between generations and a stimulating center of girls' education. The tekke of Gjakova has been for centuries a place of concrete commitment for the development of culture.
During the difficult years of occupation, especially during the 90s of the last century, the Bektashi Tekke of Gjakova was transformed into an Albanian school and Albanian Cultural Center for Gjakova and beyond.
