The Mayor of Essen, Julia Jacob, received today (May 16) a delegation from Albania. The reason for the visit was the manifestation "Interfaith and tolerance - an Albanian-European added value" in the Kreuszeskirche on Saturday, May 14, with Klaus Wegener, President of the foreign association NRW, Dr. Stephan Holthoff-Pförtner, Minister for Federal, European and International Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, Artur Kuko, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania and other Albanian representatives.
"People from 170 nations live here in Essen. To ensure that everyone can live together in peace and well, everyone must contribute. It is one of our most important tasks to stand up for trust and security in urban societies. When different nationalities live together. , cultural and religious differences of tolerating everyone - is an opportunity for our society because we can learn a lot from each other, so it is important to meet, exchange and inform each other, understand each other and we build good relations within cities and across national borders like we do today!", says Julia Jacob. About 5000 people from Albania live in Essen. They are of Christian and Muslim faith.

Empfang einer albanischen Delegation im Essener Rathaus

Heute (16.05.) empfing Bürgermeisterin Julia Jacob eine Delegation aus Albanien auf der 22. Etage des Essener Rathauses. Anlass des Besuches war die Veranstaltung "Interfaith and tolerance - an Albanian-European Added Value" in der Kreuszeskirche am Samstag, 14. Mai, mit Klaus Wegener, Präsident der Auslandsgesellschaft NRW, Dr. Stephan Holthoff-Pförtner, Minister für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten sowie Internationales des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, Artur Kuko, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania sowie weiteren albanischen Vertreter*innen.
Hier in Essen leben Menschen aus 170 Nationen. Damit alle freidlich und gut zusammenleben, muss jeder dazu begehren. Es ist eine unserer wichtigsten Aufgaben, für Vertrauen und Sicherheit in den Stadtgesellschaften einzustehen. Beim Zusammenleben verschiedener Nationalitäten gilt es, kulturelle und religiose Unterschiede von allen zu tolerieren – sie sind eine Chance für unsere Gesellschaft, denn wir können viel vom anderen lernen. That's why it's important to meet each other, to inform each other, to understand each other and to connect with each other within the cities and across the Länder borders. So wie wir es heute tun!", said Julia Jacob.
