On Thursday, August 18, 2022, in Bektashi Teqe in Gjakovë, where the Quarter of the Bektashi Community of the Republic of Kosovo is located, Ashura Day was celebrated, the day marked for Bektashi believers. As the order would have it, and the Bektashis of Kosovo fasted the mourning of Matem and after it they cooked the universal meal of Ashura in commemoration and honoring the sacrifice of the third Imam, the grandson of the prophet Muhammad, who was martyred on the field of Karbala together with members of family and loyal friends.
The religious ceremonies in honor of Ashura, at the Bektashian Quarter of Kosovo, was led by the World Grandfather of the Bektashians, His Holiness, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, who was flanked by dervishes from Gjakova and from Germany, dervish Rrauf Radoniqi and dervish Ilir Axhanela.
Many believers and well-wishers participated in these ceremonies, testifying that the trust of preserving the faith according to the teachings of Ahl Beyt is alive and cultivated among the believers in Kosovo.
The Grandfather of the World Bektashis Dede Edmond Brahimaj, accompanied by Bektashi clerics, and met with hundreds of Bektashi believers who came from different parts of Kosovo, Gjakova, Prishtina, Prizren, Kaçanik, Peja, Rahoveci, Mitrovica and others, also waiting Albanians from Kosovo living in the United States of America, where they have created a powerful and prosperous community.
